SIM Cards & Mobile Phones

The international calling code for Bali is +62, and the area code for Ubud is 0361. International callers should dial +62 361, followed by the desired number.

For making calls once you’re here, we recommend buying a local SIM card. This will only cost a couple of dollars with some call credit thrown in, and putting added credit on your phone is also extremely inexpensive. You can buy your SIM card from Ubud Music and Photo Centre, on Jalan Raya. There are plenty of other little shops selling SIM cards as well as cheap or used phones on Jl Peliatan. There’s also an excellent and reliable outlet near the Bintang supermarket on the opposite side of the road, slightly up the hill.

If you have an Indonesian SIM, mobile calls overseas are cheap. Mentari is a good network to go with if you’re planning on making lots of international calls. Make sure you use the cost-saving international dialing code that comes with your SIM.

Wifi is widespread and easy to find in Ubud. Many restaurants and cafés offer a free wifi service, and most accommodation. Our favourite is of course Rio Helmi Photo Galery & Cafe – the Internet is really strong and reliable, and it has the added advantage of being air conditioned.

Electricity can be erratic in Ubud, as can Internet connections from time to time. If the venue you’re in is having trouble, please be patient!
