The first-ever Ubud Food Festival is now officially in full swing with two more full days to enjoy.
While many special events and masterclasses are now sold out, there is still plenty to see in the program at the cooking demonstrations and free food forums which span the whole day and palate.
Early birds can start the day with free yoga at 7:00am overlooking the Campuhan Ridge – perhaps the best view to accompany a salute to the sun in Bali.
Today’s (Saturday June 6) food forum tastes include ‘Everything is Enak’ – a session for avid food writers at 10:00am with celebrated culinary expert Bondan Winarno, Festival Founder & Director Janet DeNeefe, Executive Food Editor of Femina Magazine Tria Nuragustina and Sonia Piscayanti; followed by another foodie session about the big wide world of Food Bloggers at 1:00pm. The day is rounded off by a session on the ethics of the cocoa industry at 4:00pm.
Over at the cooking demonstrations – the rich heart of the Festival program – you can witness one-hour displays of a chef’s technical prowess and culinary passion, with today’s appearances by Rahung Nasution, Janice Wong, Jon Priadi, Mandif Warokka, as well as a ‘Rendang Cook-Off’ between heavyweights, Chef Wan and Rehung Nasution. This one is sure to be a showstopper, don’t miss it. Tickets start at only 60,000Rp for these sessions.
For those inspired to follow in the steps of cookbook maven Sri Owen head to a ‘Recipe Workshop’ and channel your inner cookbook author. Tria Nuragustina teaches the basics of recipe-writing resulting in a host of recipes that will be ready to be unleashed. (Note: this workshop will be held in Bahasa Indonesia with an English translator).
On the bill for this evening is our final Pasar Malam under the starry night sky – a free event from 5:00pm – 10:00pm at Taman Baca. In addition to tasty morsels on offer from street-food stalls, check out a food styling demonstration by Dade Akbar, the Instagrammer behind the wildly popular account, Warteg Gourmet. And the soak up the tunes courtesy of DJ Marlowe, Nanoe Biroe and Griya Faria, a screening of indie hit film Filosofi Kopi at 7:00pm.
Selamat makan! See you at the Festival… and don’t forget to join in tomorrow for the final day of festivities, including the UFF Closing Night Party at ARMA Resort from 5:30pm.
