The increasing urbanisation of Ubud is a hot subject for debate. Though it’s still a delightful place to be, many residents are concerned about the destruction of Ubud’s natural beauty caused by an increase in tourism. A large number of rice-fields are being replaced by villas, and there’s little infrastructure for traffic management or waste disposal.
While stopping tourism isn’t the answer, some local businesses are taking positive action by ensuring that they operate in a sustainable way, keeping the negative impacts of tourism to a minimum.
The companies listed below promote conservation and increased awareness not only of the natural environment, but of the traditional ways of life of the local communities while still providing them an income. Support their positive ethos, and you’ll be in for a massive treat while simultaneously protecting and preserving Ubud’s environment for the future.
Enjoy all the spoils of Ubud, without spoiling the place you came to see!
