Performance arts in the form of dramatic dance, gamelan music and shadow puppetry are still an intrinsic part of Ubud’s cultural life. There are nightly performances of various kinds put on for tourists, and if you’re lucky, you’ll happen upon a ceremony or two for local people with real authentic flavour.

The Ubud tourist office on the corner of Jalan Raya and Monkey Forest Rd (opposite Ubud market and directly opposite Ubud Palace) keeps a weekly schedule of traditional evening performances. Ask there for a copy of what’s on, and where.
