Paul Husner’s current exhibition, ‘The Magic of Truth’ made me gasp on walking into it. I’d seen the work in reproduction, but wasn’t expecting a display so extensive or powerful as this: it’s an explosion of emotive, searing colour and energetic brushwork in a staggering 40 large-scale paintings.

Below you’ll get a good taste of the Husner’s style, but do go see the real thing. Stand in the room along with these highly expressionistic Balinese scenes, familiar yet dreamlike, based on real life with great lashings of imagination thrown in.

If you’re lucky you’ll be all alone with the work, as I was, in the hushed sanctuary that is ARMA in the softly falling rain. The experience will bring vividness to your day. In spades.
