Following world-wide trends, the art of coffee is now taken very seriously in some of the Ubud cafes, with espresso machines abounding and the owners in competition for serving the best cappuccino. Gone are the days when all you could get was a simple cup of Bali coffee, the grounds spooned straight into the cup followed by hot water and lots of sugar, best left until the sediments have settled – though this is still a delicious and very cheap alternative!
